Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) - SAFE

The CRP SAFE (Conservation Reserve Program - State Areas for Wildlife Enhancement) program is available for landowners to voluntarily enroll cropland to restore grassland habitats that will improve pheasants and other wildlife populations through the planting of critical nesting habitat within the pheasant and greater prairie chicken range of Minnesota. This range includes all of Benton County.

What is Eligible?

- Cropland that meets cropping history
  requirements
- Irrigated field corners
- 10 to 40 acre blocks of cropland
- <10 acre fields eligible if adjacent to
  existing habitat
- Expired CRP
- Food plots are an eligible practice (2
  acre maximum)

Payments:

- Benton County annual rental
  payments $38 to $62 per acre
- Signing bonus of $100 per acre
- 50% cost-share plus a 40% practice
  incentive payment
